At the time I tried out Naturtint I didn't think I was going to have a cruelty free vegan blog, so I didn't take any photos (d'oh!). But I did have a friend color my hair with Herbatint recently and I got some photos.
I should note that I am a natural dark, sandy blonde and I color it black. My hair absorbs color very well and is not resistant. I do not have grey hair, but I will be using the term to describe how the color covered my natural hair color.
Let's start off with what I used first-Naturtint.
Naturtint
I purchased a box of Naturtint in 1N Ebony Black at a local health food store for about $14.00 USD. I will purchase it from Vitacost for $10.99 in the future.
What does the company say it will do?
According to the product information on vitacost-

Did it do it?
Yes!
I felt no tingling or itchy sensation on my scalp. There was no harsh ammonia odor, just the pleasant scent of herbs and flowers. My hair was a tiny bit dry afterwards, but a little jojoba oil helped. All of my natural hair color was covered completely. The color was very intense and vibrant. The color continued to stay intense for a few months even when my natural color started to grow back.
Will I repurchase?
Would I recommend to others?
Yes and yes!
Herbatint
I purchased Herbatint 1N Black from Vitacost for $9.99 USD.

- Witch Hazel - treats the scalp and rich in essential oils
- Betula Alba (White Birch) - an effective hair tonic and
- Echinacea - hydrates the hair
Did it do it?
Not really. My hair turned out to be a dark brown. As terms of grey coverage it didn't cover up my natural color very well. It did smell pleasant and was very gentle. My hair was very soft and nourished afterwards. It was a very strange "soupy" consistency.
Will I repurchase?
Would I recommend to others?
I would not repurchase. I wouldn't recommend it to others. I would only recommend it to others who have severely sensitive skin and scalp and only wish to color their hair 1 to 2 shades darker or lighter.
Conclusion
Naturtint 100%. This is the best at home hair color kit I have ever tried.
